What we collect

If you suggest a park, we collect what you type into the form: the park name, street address, city and province, an optional Google or Apple Maps link, your notes, and your email address.

If you write to us through the contact form, we collect your name (optional), your email address and your message, so we can reply.

If you leave a review, we collect your star rating, your comment and an optional display name. Once a review has been approved, the rating, comment and name are shown publicly on that park’s page; your email address is never collected for reviews.

If you join our email list, we collect your email address and a record that you agreed to receive updates. The list is stored with Cloudflare and copied to a Google Sheet used by our team. You can ask to be removed at any time.

If you upload a photo, we collect the photo, your email address and, if you give one, a first name to credit you. The first name (or “Anonymous”) is shown publicly next to the photo once it is approved. Your email address is never shown; we use it only to tell you when your photo is published. Photos are stored with Cloudflare, and rejected or removed photos are deleted.

If you search by postal code, our site uses only the first three characters to find that area and sort parks by distance. We do not save your search in our database.

If you tap “Use my location”, your browser asks for your permission first. If you agree, your location is rounded to about one kilometre, appears in the page address, and is used once to sort parks by distance. We do not save it in our database. You can say no and search by city or postal code instead.

To limit automated abuse, we also store a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address along with a submission count. It cannot be turned back into your IP address.

At the time of writing, this site does not use advertising or analytics trackers.

How we use it

We use park suggestions only to review them and, if accepted, improve the directory. Your email address is only used if we need to follow up about your suggestion or to reply to a message you sent us. We never publish your email address or sell personal information. Every suggestion stays private until it has been reviewed. If you join our email list, we use your address only to send you the updates you signed up for.

Services we rely on

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which also stores submissions. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a visitor is a person and not a bot; to do so it processes technical information from your browser under Cloudflare’s own privacy terms. We also use your approximate region, as seen by Cloudflare, to show French by default in Quebec; we do not store it. Postal code searches use Zippopotam.us, a free public lookup service, which receives only the first three characters of the postal code and our server’s request, under its own terms. A copy of the email list is kept in Google Sheets, a Google service. Blog editors sign in through Keystatic Cloud; this does not apply to visitors.

How long we keep it

We keep suggestions for as long as we need them to review them and maintain the directory. We delete or anonymize personal information we no longer need.

Cookies and analytics

If you accept in the cookie banner, we load Google Tag Manager, which runs analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. These tools may set cookies and collect your IP address, device and browser details, the pages you visit, and how you click and scroll. Clarity may also record how you use a page. Google and Microsoft process this data on servers that may be outside Canada.

If you refuse, none of these tools is loaded. Your choice is stored only in your browser, and you can change it at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer.
